89Dec18 17:10 from Patrick Linstruth So, how does Wongo compare with the other boards that are currently operating in the area? I don't have muct time to call out. 89Dec18 17:51 from Swagman Wongo is one of the fastest and easy to use, I love the search and replace text editor. I don't call all that many boards so I really don't know what's out there either. 89Dec18 19:33 from Larry Cohen The users aren't as active here as they are on some of the other boards. However, I respect you as a sysop, Pat; I'm sure you wouldn't resort to biffing your own BBS, for example, in order to attempt to generate some excitement among the users. 89Dec19 06:17 from Patrick Linstruth I don't see how biffing the board could generate excitement. Usually when the board gets biffed, the board is dead until people start conversations again. Oh well, I was just curious. The board is only half the excitement I get out of running Unix. As long as there are a few people that like it, it will stay. What I like best about it right now is the twit factor. There aren't any _real_ twits online right now. Enjoy. 89Dec19 12:42 from Dolphin I enjoy, thank you. 89Dec19 14:16 from Larry Cohen Of course boards usually suffer from biffings, because the biffs aren't anticipated. Zepp's, of course, was different: he made back-ups just a few hours before the "biff" struck, and the total losses amounted to a mere 6 or 7 messages (which, incidentally, were satiric mockeries of Zepp and his friends Otto and Keith Campbell). 89Dec19 15:44 from Patrick Linstruth Oh, is that what all that spew was about. I heard something about biffings but really didn't know what it was all about. Zepp's lucky, though. I never make backups. I really should, though. 89Dec19 16:50 from Dan Crevier I don't think Pat gets it... 89Dec19 16:59 from Voodoo Slide Rule I have a sense you're right. Pat, Zepp biffed his own board. It wasn't "luck" that he had backups, really. 89Dec19 18:01 from Swagman Hmmm... 89Dec19 18:38 from Rosminah Jesus Christ guys! The topic is already on other boards, why bother to bring it up here? WHO CARES IF ZEPP BIFFED HIS BOARD? I personally don't give a shit. 89Dec19 19:52 from Lacerta Because Pat doesn't call other boards, Rosminah. Get a clue. 89Dec19 20:46 from Patrick Linstruth Hmm... I guess I don't get it. Why would anyone want to biff their own board? I think it's sort of bitchen being able to run a system 24 hours a day without any down-time what-so-ever. Most mainframes can't even do that! 89Dec19 21:27 from S. Lin Oh, who cares. Desparate times call for desparate measures, I guess. Would anyone donate money to make this board multi-line again? 89Dec20 00:26 from Larry Cohen I think his primary motive was to generate some excitement on his BBS, whose daily message count, at the time, was at an all-time low. (Zepp probably expected a lot of praise from the users for being such an efficient, well-prepared sysop). Unfortunately for Zepp, a few users recognized some rather serious inconsistencies in his story. 89Dec20 01:49 from Bob Blaylock You know what I think? First of all, I don't know whether or not Zepp biffed his own board, and I really don't care. I'm rather inclined to think that he did not. But what I really think is this: The people who are making these accusations against Zepp are not doing it for any reason having to do with a desire for truth or justice or any other noble purpose; they are doing it for no other reason than to harrass Zepp. I don't think there's anyone who's been following the whole rigmarole who honestly believes that all these myriads of accounts that are attacking Zepp are anything but a host of fake accounts wielded by only a tiny handful--two, maybe three--of users. I think that these two or three users who are behind all of this are angry and hateful because Zepp found their behavior on his board unsuitable and kicked them off; so they are trying to smear Zepp. As for whether or not Zepp really biffed his won board, Zepp says that he did not, and these two or three users, through all of their many fake accounts, say that he did, and I have seen no substantial evidence one way or another. It really gets down to whether I should believe Zepp, who to the extent that I know him, I know him to be an honest man; or whether I should believe two or three hateful users who feel a need to hide behind a huge array of fake accounts, who very clearly have an axe to grind, and who have an established reputation for seeking to disrupt BBSing at every opportunity, especially targeting anyone who has the guts to stand up to them. I think Pat would be wise to snuff this conversation out here, for it serves no real purpose other than to extend this hate campaign against Zepp. I think Todd ought to do likewise on his system as well.
