    Topless! Topless!

93Feb13 2:17 am from Luminary Coremaster
I haven't read this room since last Friday (the 5'th), and I have to say, it's
hilarious.

Maybe Jimmy is referring to his Bill the Cat doll when he says "Boinger".

90May30 from bongo to Bruce Baugh
You talk amnesty, yet you delete those upon whom you wish vengeance? You
delete me, yet I have made no public condemnation of you? I have made no
"disruptive" efforts on "your" board. You are a guest on the 'Prize, just as
any other user on the 'Prize is a guest. You are abusing your sysopic
priviledge, my friend. I would like my account back on the 'Prize, I had a
daily e-mail correspondence going on with Padre. I was on the 'Prize long
before you became sysop and will be obliged if you would restore my account
#47 and my password "star". You will notice that I am speaking to you
privately here, instead of making a public display of this. I hope we can
handle this in a discreet and civilized fashion.

90May30 from Bruce Baugh to bongo
I appreciate your talking to me privately. I will tell you in equal privacy
that I found the 4.0 GPA account utterly loathsome, a classic case in point of
what happens to communication when one user does not treat others with
respect. Communication is possible only between equals, and all you ever had
were sneers and jibes. Doesn't matter if that was only an act. You gave me
that impression. It's true that Bongo came across innocuously, but there was
continuity of user behind it, and was acting to stamp out that idea.
Abusing my privilege? I don't think so. Alan Brierton doesn't think so,
either. I talked with him last night, and his only concern was that if I'd
let him know beforehand, he would have taken the opportunity to de-fragment
his hard drive. He'll do anyway, but copying between hard drive volumes.
That was his _only_ complaint. He supported the reasoning behind my actions
and the actions themselves.
Guest on 'Prize? Not really. I'm an absentee landlord. I was brought in
to "squelch the rag wars", by whatever means seemed appropriate to me. So I
did. I extended it to cover those who weren't exactly ragging, but who were
disrupting conversation. I have the right of the homeowner to throw out
unwanted guests.
Since the message traffic was 50% higher than normal, over Memorial Day
weekend, yet, I think others agree with me. But I did it without knowing
whether they would or not, because it seemed right to me. I'd do it again.
No, I won't reinstate your account. You're welcome to apply for a new
account. Give me the required information and let me verify it, and you'll be
on your way. Then you'll have submitted to the same discipline as everyone
else. What you do with your position then will pretty much be your own
business.
See, I do not claim to be allowing freedom of expression. I'm promoting
conversation. I want there to be as much freedom as possible for as many
people as possible. But practical conversation matters more to me than the
right to be offensive or disruptive, and the rights of the individual get
curtailed when they infringe on the rights of others. I make no apology for
that.

90May31 from bongo to Bruce Baugh
What of your talk of amnesty? Was that just a sham? Seems that way to me.
You bring up amnesty one day and then you slash the next. You don't find your
actions hypocritical in that?

90May31 from Bruce Baugh to bongo
Not really. I wanted certain traits off my board. Too few people were
interested in doing so in a way that would break down old feuds. So I took
the actions that seemed appropriate to me (and to Alan).
You are, of course, welcome to fill out a new user app at any time, and
I'll treat it just the way I'd treat any other. I'd be immensely suspicious
of you while you were on the board again, but if you didn't act up, I'd have
no complaints. I won' t reinstate your old account though.
Be advised that I will probably ignore future mail from you. I've said
about what I have to say to you. Best wishes for prospering in the
environments that seem best to you. Sorry your demonstrated inclinations
didn't fit in with mine.

90Jun01 from bongo to Bruce Baugh
You're the one that brought up the concept of amnesty. Amnesty means to
forgive and forget. You're the one who keeps bringing up the 4.0 bit. I
asked you to change my name to Bongo. Did you ever wonder why? Did you ever
see Bongo leave any public messages that were not "nice" and in fact I left
few public messages as bongo. I was having a daily email convo with Padre,
leave him email and check it out. I don't want to fight with you Bruce,
that's why this is in private. Do you think I'm Aidan or something? I would
like my old account back simply for the email biz. Put me back on #47 and
password of "star" and consider it a gesture of amnesty like what you were
talking about and I guarantee you that you will not hear even a single word
that will even remotely remind you of any old feuds. I'm trying to reach out
to you here, take a chance on me and I won't let you down. If it makes any
difference to you, none of the 4.0 writing was even me. I inherited this
account, so to speak. It would be good for you to take a chance on me. You
are holding a lot of hostility towards a lot of different directions, me for
example. You could consider restoring my account as an opportunity to
practice forgiveness yourself. Consider that I have not been hostile towards
you in any of these exchanges, I have not messed with you in anyway. I admit
that I don't get along with Zepp very well but I don't pick fights with him
either. So soften your heart towards me Bruce, I give you my anonymous word
that I won't let you down.

90Jun02 from Bruce Baugh to bongo
I give you the Bard of Avon: "What a tangled web we weave when first we
practice to deceive."
Qualifier: I have nothing at all against any message I've seen from
"Bongo". They're polite, articulate, and other neat stuff.
However...This time you claim that you inherited the account, and had
nothing to do with the 4.0 messages. Last time on Prize, you reminisced about
your motivations in ragging me as 4.0. Sorry, but you are either horribly
confused or lying somewhere along the line.
If you really did inherit the account, then you're a new user. Fill out
a new user app, and I'll deal with as I'd deal with any other. If you're
still the same person, sorry, but I still don't trust you any farther than I
can throw you. Fill out a new user app and we'll get off on a better
footing.
You want me to trust your anonymous word? Doesn't work that way with me,
my putitative friend. I trust the word of people I know. There are folks who
BBS under pseudonyms but who've given me private reason to trust them.
Frankly, nothing you can do at this point in e-mail will change my mind. Fill
out a new user app.
Amnesty requires general participation. Unilateral forgiveness would be
noble on my part, but suicidal for the well-being of my board. I won't make
exceptions for my past actions. I did what seemed right to me under the
circumstances, as I do now. My board is always open to you...on the terms it
would be to anyone else. Someone wielding that account gave me good reason to
delete them. You can start fresh, but not on the old terms.
Personally, I'd like to see Bongo on 'Prize again. You're interesting this
time around, and I think you'd enhance conversations. Look forward to seeing
you some time.

90Jun04 from bongo to Bruce Baugh
I'm trying to get you to trust me on the basis of my conversation alone. I'm
trying to convince you to let me back on an anonymous level. At no point did
I ever try to deceive you, so your Bard quote however true doesn't apply
here. If I gave you the impression in my last e-mail to you on the prize that
I ragged on you as 4.0, then that is not quite what I meant. I've seen you
around on the boards and I've seen you get picked on, sometimes deservedly so
but most of the times not. I don't know if you saved my e-mail bit but
reread what I said: View
This is sent to you after reading your amnesty post. You always have struck
me as a big hearted sort of person from the very first. Your zealousness and
particularity with precision projects a slight tone of fastidiousness which
is certainly what some of us FFS vultures have preyed upon with you. You
were always good to get a rise out of, but you were quick to learn and also
joined in the fun with your Cackling Fiend account. The whole FFS REN war is
a construct of Zepp's bombastic paranoia. Zepp started this thing, Zepp
keeps it going with but a little help from the FFS (which really doesn't
exist). For the most part, I have kept out of the RENwar but occasionally
fire off a volley when the absurdity gets too much for me. So, like you, I
have a certain disgust for the whole affair too. I think that the energy that
keeps this war going is also the same creative energy that can under different
circumstances make great things happen. For my participation in the Zeppian
Dichotomy, I have chosen the FFS as the more open, less defensive side to
identify with. There a multiplicity of interests in Telecom, we are all doing
it for different reasons and it seems to me that some of us take ourselves
just a little too seriously. Those who project any form of heightened self
importance seem to get ravaged. It's happened to me and it's happen to you,
we're brothers of sorts. Please, keep this discussion just between you and
I. I'm pretty appalled at the whole conflict but I really don't care to get
sucked into a public discussion of the thing.
I was trying to begin a quiet convo with you on the subject which brought up
the concept of amnesty. Your deleting me at this point was a bit of a shock
and seemed to me to run contrary to a spirit of amnesty. It actually seemed a
little on the two-faced side to me. Can you see it from my point of view?
Try to trust me here, Bruce. Let Bongo back on 'Prize--Acct #47 Password
"star"

90Jun09 from bongo to Bruce Baugh
Got a reply, Bruce? Or is courtesy something you just expect from others but
never give from yourself, kind of like your thinking on amnesty.

That was certainly interesting. The 'Prize's sysopship has historically fallen
into the hands of strange individuals.

   93Feb13 11:15 am from Nevada
I never call the place, there's something there that just ain't natural.

93Feb13 12:32 pm from Murray Headroom
Topical and ironic. I commend Swagman for his research and cajones to post
that conversation here, now. I suppose the Ecclesiastic was correct when he
said , "There is nothing new under the sun."

   93Feb13 1:10 pm from Zeylan
What exactly was the "4.0 bit" anyway? Do you have stuff on that to post?

93Feb13 11:29 pm from kleg whicher ufth
"4.0 GPA" was a user who -- actually, someone recently entangled in the
Enterprize reminds me of him -- a user who thought himself a very impressive
creature, largely because of his empty scholastic accomplishments. They were
apparently his only source of self-respect, so he doted on them relentlessly,
and quite to the vexation of most of his fellow users.
In case anyone was wondering, "Bongo" was Swagman. At least at that
point; who did you get the account from, Swag?
Right. The succession of 'Prize sysops has been a very bleak and
depressing thing, for the most part. There were times when I really enjoyed
Zepp and Katlinel being sysops, though...

   93Feb14 8:06 am from Swagman
Hmm, about bongo and 4.0 GPA, I neither confirm nor deny any allegations of
identity or source aquisition of either account with any regard what so ever
of their sameness, difference or origin. But it was an interesting and
entertaining read, wasn't it?
