Well, the Santa Barbara BBS community has some national recognition again.  
Sort of.  At least on the internet, anyway. 
 
 The S.B. BBS Nostalgia page has been getting a lot of traffic lately, 
specifially a file called "penis" has been getting a large amount of hits.  
It's a rather stupid message thread captured in a file, really.  And yet 
somehow it's getting hit about 50 times a day on average.  At first I thought 
it was the name of the file -- "penis" -- that might be doing it.  All the WWW 
search engines will return that document when a search is made for that word.  
This was leading me to believe that maybe people were finding it when looking 
for pornography or penis enlargement devices or whatever. 
 
 Then I managed to do my own search of the URL address, and I noticed that the 
document had won some rather odd awards.  It was featured on "Mirky's Worst of 
the Web" and it won the RAGE Magazine award for "Best Reason to Avoid Online 
Chat."  This is giving the penis document much more attention than it really 
deserves. 
 
 The Swagazine page is now being featured by several online literary magazines 
and poetry collections.  They actually take it seriously and consider it some 
sort of valid literature.  Imagine that.

popularity?  Hard to say.  It is pretty funny, while at the same time, bad.

Is this being netted? I'm not sure it is Bowhead material.  It's not really 
obscene though.  It's a great example of the often hilarious and spontaneous 
exchanges that were so common on Gooblesnortembopy at its height.  As much as 
I like Swagland, we haven't had that kind of a Gooble peak here in quite some 
time.  Part of it was the nature of Gooble and it's certainly true Gooble had 
its share of problems.
