Fread Forward
93Jan30 12:38 am from Dark Dr. X
Hey, all, I agree, I'm a complete jerk and annoyance on the boards, but can I
help it? NO! The BBSes are made for relaxing and having fun.
93Jan30 1:28 am from Poet
Hi all. I'm back from the Shit hole. L.A. Whew...
93Jan30 2:08 am from Zeylan
How is your being a jerk supposed to be relaxing and fun for the rest of us?
93Jan30 11:08 am from Doctor Mentor
Spazmo-man, if your beef was with Luminary Coremaster all along, why didn't
you just SAY that in the first place, instead of bringing up all this other
crap?
93Jan30 2:17 pm from Dark Dr. X
Zeylan: Good question, but you must realize many of us are acting like jerks..
including you. =)
93Jan30 2:51 pm from Zeylan
No, not including me.
93Jan30 3:29 pm from Dark Dr. X
If you say so... Well, anyway, what counts is I will stop posting meaningless
messages. =)
93Jan30 4:43 pm from Zeylan
Yeah, sure. We believe you.
93Jan30 9:55 pm from SpAsMo-MaN
You know, I was studying how Clinton handled the gays in the military issue,
and I'm SO FUCKING IMPRESSED! His position is morally right, but it's
controversial as hell (face it, people are retarded). So what does he do? He
makes a few minor concessions, staying true to his principles, and he pulls
the damn thing off. I'm impressed, I'm inspired. So here's The New Deal:
Lumie & his playmates don't have to leave this BBS. They just have to be given
limits. SEVERE limits to be sure, but mere limits. I'd say the group could
safely be allowed a total of 6 messages per day among them (they can divvy
them as they see fit). That way, I'd only face 6 allergic spasms per day, an
endurable number. 6 Lumie & his Playpen messages would probably be enough
idiocy for this BBS to withstand also, without being suffocated. (It might be
worth considering restricting the Lumie & playmate messages to certain rooms,
that way those who wish to avoid them entirely -- there are lots of us --
could.)
That's my idea for a compromise. Next, I'll suggest things to do in case Lumie
& his playpals break their agreement. Since they should consider themselves
lucky if they are even allowed on this BBS, they should expect very severe
punishment if they renege on this (proposed) agreement.
Fun, fun, fun! (Til daddy takes the keyboard away)
93Jan30 11:07 pm from Zeylan
Do shut up.
93Jan31 9:26 am from SpAsMo-MaN
I'll shut up when Lumie & his Playpals leave.
93Jan31 10:51 am from Dark Dr. X
Ah-hahahahaha! You said that they "don't have to leave"! HAHAHAHAHA!
93Jan31 12:03 pm from Zeylan
I've just forgotten the majority of rooms on this BBS.
93Jan31 1:38 pm from David the Grey
Well, at least things are looking slightly more interesting right now. I much
prefer a logical explanation of grievances to a sheer antagonistic parody.
93Jan31 3:13 pm from Luminary Coremaster
Unfortunatly, the said explanation wasn't a very good one.
93Jan31 6:54 pm from Palmer Young
that's a negative attitude, zeylan.
93Jan31 7:46 pm from SpAsMo-MaN
I never wanted to be a Spasmo-Man. It wasn't a matter of choice. I wanted to
be the sort of BBSer everyone liked. I wanted to write messages that inspired
everyone to get involved in edifying, enjoyable discussions! I wanted to go to
Q's and be swamped by BBSer buddies! I wanted to be the sort of BBSer people
hoped their calls would follow ("Gee, it's been busy for a while, I hope it's
Spasmo!").
That's the sort of BBSer I wanted to be, and I was working towards it. But
something went wrong. When I began to see all those "HAW HAW HAW, hehehehehe,
Ha ha ha ha ha" messages, something didn't feel right inside me. At first, I
assumed it was dietary (a connection between BBS messages and health?
Absurd!). But it became obvious that there WAS something about those messages
that was having an effect on me. And the feelings -- which I would soon
identify as spasms -- grew worse. Finally, I became what I am today. I became
Spasmo-Man. And I'm no longer concerned with enjoyable, edifying discussions!
I'm concerned with Fun! Fun, fun, fun (til daddy takes the keyboard away)!
93Jan31 9:00 pm from Dark Dr. X
Spasman, I'm looking for the same thing, actually..
93Jan31 11:05 pm from David the Grey
He's being sarcastic, DDX.
93Jan31 11:43 pm from Dark Dr. X
Ohh. It's somewhat hard to tell sometimes on the boards..
93Feb01 9:41 am from BOXHEAD
What a wild and ragin weekend I had...
93Feb01 1:31 pm from Luminary Coremaster
Remember, ddX, no matter what you say, Spasmo-Man will still be against you.
So don't even bother replying to him.
93Feb01 5:11 pm from Due Monday
This whole bbs fake account debate thing seems quite odd. I understand that
as a user you don't want to read a bunch of random messages, but I also see
how if you dont want to hear from certain users, why dont you just ignore
them, or if it comes down to it, as was said earlier- just make invitation
only rooms.
6 messages a day? yeah right, simply from a human rights perspective,
isnt that infringing upon their freedoms.
Understandably you dont want to hear crap all day long. But who am i to
say, I just started reading about spasms beef, and dont have much of a grasp
on it.Therefore i shall simply say, that Tiny Tim is a good artist, but I
prefer (of the elder generations) Buddy Holly (too bad hes dead now).
93Feb01 5:49 pm from Zeylan
As I said before, I simply forgot about 85% of the rooms on this BBS because
of this whole idiotic affair. Simple solution as far as I'm concerned. I'd
forget the lobby if the software'd let me.
93Feb01 6:14 pm from SpAsMo-MaN
Luminary, your penchant for mangling facts is as well-earned as your
reputation as the biggest disaster to hit the BBS's. Congradulations, chum! I
can see you've been having fun, fun, fun (til Daddy takes the keyboard away).
93Feb01 7:40 pm from Colin Campbell
As a visitor from afar, I'm interested in this debate mostly from a
financial point of view: it costs me money to log on here. About as much as
going to OnLineAmerica, or CompuServe. I'd like to enter into conversations,
but by the time I've scrolled through all the name-calling, I've spent a
couple of bucks--and I have to print the stuff out later to find out what's
going on.
It's good that this board is so busy. I've been futilely exploring the
Detroit boards trying to find a replacement. I'm now a member of the Detroit
Mac Group board, for instance, and with a population base of 5 million people,
the board gets 5 posts per day. I've located several juvenile name-calling
boards in St Clair Shores (the suburb I'm in) but they average 2 posts per
day.
Here's what my count for my log-in of a couple hours ago. (I've logged in
here every day for a couple of months, so I'm not far behind; my pocketbook
won't let me stay on line to respond very often). These are the number of
messages from users since yesterday: Luminary Coremaster26 DDx21 David the

I'd like to enter into discussions, but I'm going to have to .Forget some

By the way, the new deadline for Issue 2 of Lip Think is March 15. All

I'm sorry Lip Think #1 is so late. I printed as many copies as I could
using the printer cartridges I had on hand. I had to flee town rather than buy

Between them, Luminary and DDX post more than the rest of the users of this
BBS combined. That's why I support Spasmo's efforts. The BBS is much less
enjoyable than it used to be for me, and I don't even have to pay
long-distance bills.
In their pursuit of fun, Luminary & Co. seem to be forgetting that there
are OTHER people out there -- people who have to put up with all that stuff
they post. BBSing involves OTHER PEOPLE, that's why it has the potential to be
interesting. Some people -- I think Colin is one of them -- contribute a lot
to this BBS. Not because they're superior to the others, but because they put
EFFORT into it. For Christ's sake, this BBS won't exist forever, and neither
will we, so WHY WASTE the experience? I don't see why certain other people
can't be JUST A BIT more considerate, and put a little effort, a little
thought into the messages. I mean, what's the big deal? Since you're here, why
not do something decent? Stupid, 1-line messages are an insult to the other
users and to the BBS. If you have to write garbage, why subject everyone to
it? Why not play a video game instead?
93Feb01 11:19 pm from Bodhi
Hey! wassup all, I'm just posting to let you know that there is a new bbs in
town and its pretty slick, so why doncha give it a call, post a few messages

you think of it and any comments or suggestions that would make it a better
bbs.. thanks! . Support for MAC, Amiga, IBM And any other files you have! .

93Feb02 12:34 am from David the Grey
That was an intersting survey, Colin, and I must admit a little disturbing. I
hadn't realized how often I post here. Of course, I suppose that's natural
since it's the only board I'm using right now, aside from my favorite Amiga
board. (It also happens to be one of the ONLY Amiga boards, but that's a
coincidence) Still, I might need to limit my posts to avoid similar
accusations. :}
93Feb02 6:57 am from BOXHEAD
It's true...I am addicted to this board.
93Feb02 12:04 pm from The Newstyle
What's your favorite Amiga board DAvid?
93Feb02 1:03 pm from Luminary X
Hey, can I be the BBSer equivalent of Spinal Tap? I'd dig that for sure...
I'm determined to enter more messages than Luminary Coremaster and ddX
combined. That'll make them obsolete, huh? Oh, I dunno... I'm also
determined to have more fun here than anyone else, cuz fun's what it's all
about, I guess. Fun at everyone else's expense even...
Where's Bill the Cat been at? Anyone read Sunday's Outland? Bill the
Cat is having an affair with the Clinton family's cat, Socks! Ragin! At
first Opus the Penguin thought he was having an affair with Chelsea Clinton,
which I thought woulda been better...heheh, hahah, hurhurhurhur!!!
93Feb02 1:45 pm from Zeylan
Good lord, will it never end? GO AWAY.
93Feb02 2:32 pm from Dark Dr. X
I realize I enter a lot of messages, but I'm trying to cut down on the
meaningless ones. I think I'm doing a fairly good job at it right now. Another
thing that could be said is that some people have a lot to say.. I don't know.
I'm saddened badly to see how this BBS is doing the same thing Enterprise did.
There's only one thing that I can see would help.. erase all the messages and
bases and start again from scratch. I realize that won't happen, so I'll just
go shut up, okay?
93Feb02 4:42 pm from Vixen
My, this is interesting. I can see that I've missed a lot. On the other
hand, I can also see that I haven't missed much at all. I too, have recently
struggled over what to do with the many messages I have to scroll through in
order to get through the board, especially now that I've only been able to log
on about once a week. My solution turns out to be the same one Zeylan used.
I forgot eleven rooms the last time I was on the board. Now don't get me
wrong, it wasn't that they were all uninteresting, but simply because most of
those rooms held the same basic conversations that were going on in other
rooms. That much repetition is a waste of my time. Why must you all carry on
the same conversations in muultiple rooms? It would seem more efficient to
condense it all down to two or so. Besides, then it might not take me two
hours to simply read all the messages anymore.
93Feb02 10:45 pm from Zeylan
I agree. Deleting messages is right out, but how about moving them?
93Feb02 11:36 pm from Gwar
That gets under the skin of certain users. They can't be satisfied by keeping
on topic and start ranting about freedom of speech. Completely ignoring the
fact that they're infringing on the freedom of others by forcing them to go
elsewhere for entertainment.
93Feb03 8:10 pm from Swagman
Ok, so I made some changes around here. I got tired of Spasmo's ranting so
I've asked him to stop, actually I put the account on ice, so to speak.
93Feb03 8:51 pm from BOXHEAD
Fascinating!
93Feb03 9:27 pm from Dark Dr. X
Thanks.. I'm sorta in a crisis..well, okay, it's a major crisis, and if I find
out what I'm going through is just a joke, someone is going to DIE.

93Feb04 12:18 am from Zeylan
A horse walks into a bar. Bartender says, "Hey! Why the long face?"
93Feb04 12:43 am from Imago
Zeylan: Why?:) All others: I've practically stopped calling this board just
because I'm tired of logging on and scrooling through a load of BS, such as
the above discusion. Luminary & DDX get ragged on enough, from what I've read,
that they have the right, in my opinion, to post whatever they want. Also, I
may be wrong here, and please tell me if I am, but isn't the WHOLE POINT of a
BBS to post and share information?!?! Gee, guess I had the wrong idea all
along....BBS's are really places to get out sexual frustration while calling
yourself a SpAsMo, or a vegetable, or a cow....gimme a break! I get enough BS
at work, school, and on TV...I don't need more here....!
93Feb04 12:52 pm from Dark Dr. X
Right on, Imago. Amar: Huh? Zeylan: HAhahah! Good joke!
93Feb04 2:37 pm from Due Monday
Although it takes a bit of time to return to a more productive bbs
environment, I can see that since I last logged things are a bit better. At
least it is no longer an individual argument but now a consensus that this
board will be better if we did not write bs. I too only log on about once a
week and have to scroll through alot of msgs. Just now am i figuring the
whole condition out.
Dark Dr. X, what crisis were you talking about??
93Feb04 2:43 pm from Due Monday
LETS see, something I initially forgot to do-
HELLO everyone!!
93Feb04 5:05 pm from Colin Campbell
Hello, hello, how do you do.
93Feb04 7:31 pm from Nevada
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. Hold everything. Now this place has become quite
quite trivial lately which is why I have moved on to some more stimulating
boards on Internet, but I have always known that I could count on a certain
amount of anarchy that makes this place feel like home. Sure, nothing gets
said, and there are about 2^10 times as many stupid one liners and rehashes of
the same old shit as there are unique and stimulating messages, but am I to
come to the conclusion that Swagman is deleting users? Now, I have been
BBSing for 4 years, and I still call this place The Dragon, and I thought I
knew and respected Swag as an outstanding voice for freedom of speech. I
suppose the years of BBS wear and tear are getting to him, especially now that
this place has become more of a sewer for flames than a place of discussion,
but to delete users? I mean hey, he was a negative guy, but there was a
certain amount of truth to the arguement that this place is over-run with
drivel, and it's not like he biffed the place. As much as this place is
yours, Swag, it is, 100%, I think it would also be important to remind you and
the users that this place was not created by you, you adopted it from a Mr.
Wabbit, you adopted it's style, it's users, and it's philosophy of no
censorship. It's a little sad that the faith put into you by the previous
sysop and users to keep this place an open forum has been misplaced.
Spazm-guy or whatever his name is, is not a happy camper, but he did have a
very effective way with getting peoples blood boiling, and perhaps, that is
not such a bad thing.
93Feb04 7:57 pm from Swagman
Listen! I _have_ let the telecom community down and have broken faith with
several users whose accounts I axed in the past couple of days. To those
users, I beg your forgiveness. To the several users in the long past that I
have done this to, to you I say forgive me if you can. The mantle of free
speech and the wild and crazy spirit of spontaneous ideas was the hallmark of
the Digital Dungeon and that is the tradition which I was charged with keeping
alive. I almost let the flame go out. I couldn't believe it when I realized
just what I'd done and what I'd let it come down to. I'd sunk into the gutter
of closeminded rigidity. Although the hardware for this BBS resides in my
possession, the gift of your writing creating the phenomena of this BBS
belongs to you all. I am but a steward and caretaker of your efforts.
93Feb04 8:43 pm from Nevada
One last history lesson for everyone and then I will go back to obscurity. I
personally can not remember a time that there weren't at least two users in
some kind of war on here. Some times the wars heat up, some times the wars
just simmer, but there have always, always, always been conflicts of interest
on here. You can measure the seasons by the perfect regularity of biffing.
The more this board changes, the more it stays the same. You kids may not
realize or appreciate this, and you battle-worn veterans may have forgotten,
but this place was founded on the idea that there are a world of ideas out
there and each one of them has a place. Think of all the things you arn't
allowed to say, and all the places you arn't allowed to say them. TV, radio,
newspapers, classrooms, the workplace all seem to believe in freedom of
speech...... so long as you do it within certain boundaries. So long as you
don't say certain words, or talk about certain acts, or think certain
ideas. The Digital Dungeon/Dragon/Swagland/whatever it may be in the future,
is a legacy that I hope will continue forever. Here you can be whoever you
want to be and say whatever you want to say. Todd used to tell me that this
was his sociology experiment, an experiment in human nature. Humans are not
linear creatures, we all have multiple personalities, there are good, bad
and demented sides to us all. Anger, confusion, impatience are a very real
part of being human, but it is a part that we are told to suppress since day
one. It will be a very sad day indeed when I am removed from a society that
thinks itself open to all because of my anger, my bitterness, my natural
feelings of hate, impatience, and annoyance. It is very very easy to allow
complete freedom to positive people, and pat yourself on the back that you
can accomplish such a marvelous achievement, but true freedom is to accept
all. Feathers will be ruffled, fangs will be bared, and a little more than
just toes will be stepped on, but isn't that who we are? It's tiring, it's
annoying, and it makes you just want to give up and go back to bed, but it is
honest, it is us, and it is the ugly truth. I'm an idealist at heart, and
while I rarely delve into the depth of my convictions with such passion, I
strongly believe in what this place stood for, stands for, and should always
be. Swag, if this place ever becomes more of a burden for you than the well
of creativity that you dream of, call me, and I will always be willing to
take the crown and save the dungeon.
93Feb04 9:12 pm from The Evil Metronome
This BBS is in the worst shape of its long history, as far as I'm concerned.
What little creativity there is left is usually discouraged, and the quality
of messages is pathetic; people are posting stuff that no one should have to
read -- in unbelievable quantity. When someone writes a substantial message,
hordes of bland accounts compete to say "I didn't read that!" first. Whenever
someone characterful comes along, all the idiots scream insinuations about the
account's "true" identity, without having given the matter a moment of
thought. (Thought just isn't acceptable here anymore; apparently it's been
deemed not-Fun.) This BBS used to be the best; it had a character all its
own, and callers who weren't on any other BBS's. Now it's been homogenized,
and it's a dismal joke.
93Feb04 11:01 pm from Dark Dr. X
Why don't we all forget about what has happened over the last few weeks, and
maybe it will all go away! Concerning my crisis: I need to get in touch with
someone desperately, and noone ever answers the phone. I'm afraid they have
the ringer off by accident.

Zeylan: Possibly. I have no idea!
93Feb05 12:07 pm from Nevada
I think perhaps one of the reasons for this boards lack of substance as of
late has to do with the usership rather than anything under sysop control,
which is why I decided to come out of my hole when I did. Sysop interference
has never ever made a board a better place to be, in my most humble opinion.
I'm just kind of wondering why the serious users (and they do still lurk here
in the shadows) have allowed so much attention to be drawn to the dorks. I
seem to recall a time when stupid and useless messages were read around rather
than responded to. There have always been useless users, albiet in not quite
the same numbers as we have today, but to respond to a post only invites it's
owner to post more.
93Feb05 12:32 pm from Dark Dr. X
I'm not a "useless" user! I make good comments when they are nessicary! I
provide information when needed! I admit, I do type some silly messages, but
what's the big deal?
93Feb05 1:18 pm from The Evil Metronome
This BBS has been smothered by idiotic messages from bland accounts. To me, a
longtime user, that's a big deal. This used to be a great BBS; lots of
dedicated, interesting callers contributed to enjoyable (and sometimes even
edifying) conversations. (These included intense arguments, by the way. The
new wave of insipid hacks may whine about having their stupors disrupted, but
these types of exchanges are GOOD and healthy for BBS's.) Today, this BBS is
dominated by people who just don't care what they say; they don't bother to
think, they just spout off, endlessly. The BBS has become a Party Line for
Bored Youngsters. For the rest of us, calling is no longer a pleasant
experience; it's like trudging through a field of manure. Why do I still
bother to call? Because it's possible that this BBS's wretched state is
temporary. Something's got to change.
93Feb05 1:27 pm from David the Grey
Arguments are definitely healthy. I just hate deletion of users. I love
arguing, and have done so with many members of the BBS. There is a difference
between an argument and telling people you're going to drive them crazy until
they are deleted or leave the BBS. If you want to tell someone you hate them,
go for it! Or, if you hate their messages, say that too.
One thing I found interesting is that several of the people here to change the
BBS (Spasmo, Luminary X, etc.) kept talking about Conformity. They said they
hated the individuals who were conforming to a certain attitude. But, if
anyone was simply arguing with them because they disagreed, they'd get
attacked for not conforming to THEIR ideas. There's a group-mentality here on
both fucking sides. If you argue with Spas or his supporters, you are
automatically thrown into the opposite camp. Or, if you agree with them,
you're considered in the other. That's stupid. This is a BBS community of
individual ideas, and most of us (I think) don't even necessarily associate
with users on EITHER side.
93Feb05 3:46 pm from Luminary Coremaster
I haven't logged on since Monday, and the Lobby alone has a huge amount of
message activity. I was semi-amused to see the "Luminary X" account. I was
confused to notice that the people who say that the BBS is going downhill
(which it most certainly isn't!) had nothing but negative things to say in
their messages. I was also pleased to see that I wrote the most messages in
Colin's survey, that's quite interesting. I reply to something in most of the
rooms that I come upon each call.
93Feb05 6:00 pm from Gwar
I'll just throw in my $0.02 here...
This board hasn't really been around long enough to get 'long time users' in
my opinion. It takes years to get that kind of status. It also seems rather
pointless to go on about the lack of good messages because that's not much of
a conversation. "If you can't say it in less than a page, don't bother." I
forget who wrote that first, but it holds true. I rarely read a message over
1/2 page.
93Feb05 6:38 pm from The Newstyle
I think that all this whining has gotten blown way out of proportion. And the
people who criticize Luminary and Ddx have no right to because who the hell do
they think they are. How have the proved themselves to be valuable users?
They haven't. All they have proved is that they can whine and keep on
whining. Wake up and smell the coffee. Instead of whining say something
intelligent and start some constructive discussion. Nobody has the right to
belittle or speak in a derogatory manner towards ddx and Luminary.
And the only people who can be blamed for this so-called decline in this
bbs is the people who have been incessantly whining. The whining, if
anything, is what has lowered this board. I'll say something good about ddx
and Luminary. They may be a little ebulient at times and post a lot of
messages , but at least they don't whine about other people.
So why doesn't everybody forget about it and incite some discussion.
That's the problem with life. Nit-picking, criticism, and pointing out
the bad points in people or things makes people look at things in a negative
light and disheartens them. Instead of doing something constructive, people
waste their time saying negative things.
