Wow. I always hated reading online fiction - generally, I hated reading short fiction period, though there were always a few exceptions. A friend of mine sent me a direct link to a story from your back-issue of Dragon's Breath Magazine. I read it, and - intrigued - went on to read everything else in Dragon's Breath. Then I clicked on the "Provided by Swagzine" link, and discovered that you exist. I am in awe. I now have something to DO for the next few days - explore every piece of text on your site. Thanks bunches.

Hey there, I've been surfing around looking at poetry-related sites because I'm writing reviews for the premiere edition of Web Magazine, and I felt compelled to tell you that your site is one of the better ones I've come across. Needless to say, you'll get a good review...

I am glad to come across the 'Santa Barbara Nostalgia BBS Page'! My nostalgia centers around the now gone but NOT forgotten 'SBCC bbs' where so many people in SB met to discuss and fuss the different issues that were so near and dear and also sometimes a little queer. Anyway just wanted to say something about that great time of yore and of a wonderful Italian lady that helped to keep us all on the straight and narrow...or else! Thanks!

This site is a damn good idea.

Your Santa Barbara BBS Nostalgia Page kicks ass! I love the llamas! You guys remind me of a show called South Park! This is my favorite site!

I had a great time going through the Santa Barbara BBS Nostalgia Page! What an interesting bunch of characters! Some of the exchanges had me laughing out loud. I'd like to see more. If there is still a BBS in Santa Barbara, can you post its #? I also liked some of the Swagazine articles, especially Bill the Cat's poems. Good Stuff! I will recommend this site to friends, and call again!

A fascinating page. The history of bulletin board systems in Santa Barbara is astonishingly tumultuous. Mark Thorn's attacks on Nevada are the most vicious I've seen online. Spasmo-Man's criticism of the "Prepubescent Playpals," while arrogant and hostile, seems to reflect genuine concern about the quality of his BBS (one wonders whether he was ultimately right). Phaedrus's pschoanalysis of Aidan is devastating, and so personal that it's uncomfortable to read. Colin Campbell, who seems to be forever reminiscing, is full of interesting anecdotes. Josh and Rich's love-poems are a crack-up, and Bob Blaylock's ultra-uptight response is amusing in a different way. The SB BBS world seems to have been forever embroiled in curious controversies, and I'm glad this page is here to document them.

The site is really cool, I had fun perusing it. I kind of feel sorry for the members of Swagman's BBS; Swagman seems (from the files I read) extremely moody and capricious. He seemed fond of deleting people's accounts whenever controversies arose, which means all the time. And the accounts he deleted were often the most productive ones! He ended up siding with mindless twit accounts, like DDX and Luminary Coremaster. What a LOUSY f*cking sysop! NO WONDER Santa Barbara BBSing is now a matter of nostalgia.

I noticed that the last copy of The Santa Barbara Local BBS List I had was 5/27/96. Glad to see you still maintain it. If you don't mind, I'd like to post it in the NewFiles area on The LIBRARY ANNEX BBS. Looks like I'm one of the six left . mike burns

Some interesting info you have there... I used to be the SYSOP of the BACKDOOR BBS, (#19 on your list) which was a (mostly) C64 BBS running with FOUR, count em FOUR single sided floppy drives!! Of course that was a LOT of programs for the C64 in those days... It was up for 4 years total, and had gone from a 300baud all the way up to 9600 before finally closing down... Most users - 225 different users in one month, which, back then was pretty darn good! We were NOT the one that displayed the "If you don't have at least ten new games, hang up now" That was Guru's Hookah... Which was run by a guy named Morgan (Can't rememer his last name right off) Another interesting note would be about Bob Blaylock's BOWHEAD WHALE BBS... Although Bob now swears by his Apple, he USED to tell everyone that his HP VECTRA was "THE BEST COMPUTER IN THE WHOLE WORLD" - sound familiar?? Alan McKenzie - Retired Sysop of Backdoor BBS

Awesome page! Brings back all kinds of memories. Of course, there should be more mention of Paul, Tom, and me who single-handedly provided porn to the SB community with Gif Heaven BBS. But that is neither here nor there. Nice to see some familiar handles.
